Pregnancy week 4
In pregnancy week 4 your growing baby is very small - only about 0.04" long - or about 10 times the size of a human hair - you are
not showing, have not gained weight (from pregnancy at least) and might not even realize that you are pregnant - its likely that
you are expecting your period.
There is a lot going on in your body at this stage of pregnancy - the amniotic cavity that holds the amniotic fluid starts to form - the
placenta is forming - the blood networks to support baby growth are forming - many layers of cells are developing - these layers called
germ layers will develop into different parts of baby's body - there are 3 germ layers - the ectoderm, the endoderm and the mesoderm -
the ectoderm will become the nervous system, brain hair and skin - the endoderm becomes the lining of baby's gastrointestinal tract,
pancreas, liver and thyroid - The mesoderm develops into the skeleton, tissues, urogential system, muscles and blood system.
