Pregnancy week 12
This is the twelfth week of pregnancy and this week marks your baby's age at 10 weeks. Baby is now about 2.5" long, as measured from crown [top of
baby's head, to rump (baby's behind)] - baby's weight is between 0.3 ozs to 0.5 ozs (about 8 to 15 grams) - by pregnancy week 12 baby is
growing very fast.
If this is your first pregnancy then you may not be wearing maternity clothes yet - if you have been pregnant before then
you are more likely to be bigger and wearing bigger clothing or maternity clothing - your breasts are larger and you possibly have sore breasts at this stage of pregnancy -
weight gain may be noticeable on your hips, legs and sides.
Your baby is more or less completely formed now - everything just gets larger from now on - the skeleton and bones
are developing - fingers and toes have separated into digits - amazingly the nails are growing - it maybe possible
to distinguish if your baby is male or female - baby's digestive system has started working and in pregnancy week 12 the
pituitary gland is secreting hormones.
Since this 'fetal' stage of baby's development started in pregnancy week 11 the baby has started to look very human - hands, arms,
feet, legs and even eyelids are recognizable and although baby could be moving you will not feel it.
Your uterus continues to grow and is now bigger than your pelvis - if you visit your doctor then its very possible that you
will be able to hear baby's heartbeat through an instrument called a fetal doppler - this can be very uplifting - also, you
are probably feeling better as your morning sickness becomes less.
