Maclaren Stroller review
Why are Maclaren stroller's so popular ?
Well, the build quality is almost legendary - and some people think they are super cool -
if you are travelling they fold well and take up little space (you heard of umbrella stroller - think of a stroller that can fold down to a size just
larger than an umbrella) - they are light - and almost like a Mercedes Benz or BMW in that they have a classy european brand image.
In 1965 Owen Maclaren designed and patented his prototype Baby Buggy - with signature blue and white stripes and aluminium frame.
Maclarens unique, lightweight, 3D fold design continues on to this day - and why change it ?
The fact is that Owen Maclaren, a former test pilot and aeronautical designer, created the iconic B01 buggy in the converted stables
of his restored medieval farmhouse, Arnold House, in the village of Barby, Northamptonshire in England in 1967.
What a heritage !
Based on Maclaren's knowledge as a retired aeronautical engineer and grandfather, the buggy had to be durable, safe, and lightweight.
The original Maclaren stroller is in a sense timeless because it used modern materials like tubular aluminium and a durable structure with
3-D folding mechanism that comfortably carried even a fairly large child, despite the stroller only weighing only 6 LBS. With this revolutionary
design, Owen Maclaren rescued mom's & dad's from the bulky pram of the day..
Today’s Maclaren stroller's owe a lot to the original B01 design – the lightweight frame, durable fabric and one-hand fold.
What a lot of people don't know is that Maclaren openly support charities such as:
Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.
The Hunger Project
Time for Lyme, Inc.
Baby Buggy
The Brain Trauma Foundation
Maclaren Stroller expense:
You may say that Maclaren strollers are expensive - however ask anyone with children how many strollers they have - chances are
its more than one and maybe up to 5 or more - why ? - because they buy a cheaper stroller and its not built like a Maclaren and they end up buying
other strollers when the old one falls apart - a cheaper stroller may have a bi-fold design that takes up more space and is not travel friendly - buy a cheaper
stroller and its like saying to yourself that you are planning to buy another one in future - ironically buying a Maclaren stroller may save you money
in the long run - there is a big difference in quality between a cheap stroller and a Maclaren - you always get what you pay for! - Maclaren strollers
are built for many years of routine use - its not unheard of for a Maclaren to be passed from one generation to the next - Maclaren strollers are
designed with baby’s safety and comfort first, and ease of use and convenience next - all Maclaren products are made with materials that meet
rigorous standards for quality - in fact Maclaren has its own in-house standards that all their products must adhere to before even being offered for
sale - these standards are higher than those required in the UK/Europe - Maclaren strollers can be folded using one hand and all have a carry strap,
carry handle or can be hooked over your arm for easy traveling.
Why don't Maclaren offer a tandem double stroller ?
A tandem stroller is a double stroller or twin stroller where one child or baby is seated in front of the other - they seem to be a good idea -
you think that they will be easier to get through doorways and to manouvre - there are good reasons that Maclaren does not make a tandem-style
twin - with a tandem double stroller the weight you are pushing is so far out in front of you that its difficult to push or steer - try it for yourself, put a
weight in the front seat of a tandem stroller and try to push it - then put the same weight in fron of a Maclaren twin stroller and push it - you will notice
the difference ! - oh, and by the way, Maclaren double strollers fit through standard doorways!
Are Maclaren stroller seats padded? Are they washable?
Maclaren offer different levels of padding in their seats.
Products designed to be used from birth: the Techno, and the Twin Traveller have the most padding.
The Triumph, Quest, and Rally Twin are also nicely padded for the comfort of an older baby or child.
All of the Maclaren seats are hand-washable and removable.
Do all Maclaren buggies have brakes?
All Maclaren buggies have dual brakes for additional safety. The brakes are found on the both rear wheels, and are operated by pushing
a lever/levers with your foot. Even though the brakes are easy to operate you should never leave your child unattended on even the slightest incline.
How long can I use my buggy? Until what age and/or weight?
Maclaren buggies are designed and tested to hold up to a 33LBS child; the double strollers are tested to hold up to 33LBS on each side.
Interestingly enough, children figure out what age they no longer want to be in a buggy - some children want to walk when they're 2, others
when they're 5 - in this case your child may know best.
Is a Maclaren umbrella stroller comfortable to push?
For those of you who are tall and worry that your have to bend down to reach the handles or that you may kick the back of the stroller while walking take heart !
- Most umbrella-style buggies have short handles, which can cause back strain on any sized parent, making a walk with their child unpleasant.
- All Maclaren strollers and twin strollers are designed with comfortably positioned, tall handles, which make Maclaren buggies pleasant to push for
parents and the unique design also ensures you won't kick the back of the buggy while walking. With handle heights of 41" to 43", Maclaren designers
have optimized comfort for both parent and baby - the Maclaren Techno XT and Maclaren Maclaren MX3 have height adjustable handles, for increased flexibility and
comfort.
